Final Words, Seasons, and Kept Promises

11/3/2016

I'm happy to let you know that Mercy Inn will be available in print in the next few days. And, of course, it's still available in e-book format. It's my first novel, and I'm so excited about releasing it. Hope you enjoy it.

Now, let's get to this week's thoughts about slowing down and living deeper:

  • A woman who was dying of cancer at the age of 38, wrote her own obituary. At the end, she left a few tips for ways to honor her. One of which said, "Turn off the electronics and take a kid out for ice cream and talk to them about their hopes and dreams." That's great advice for all of us. Here's the rest of her list.

  • If you aren't sick to death of listicles, consider reading this one: 50 Ways Happier, Healthier, and More Successful People Live On Their Own Terms. You'll find so many great suggestions, including tracking your habits, distancing yourself from the news, saying "no" more often, etc.

  • Do you have a favorite drive you like to take off the beaten path? Did you know that you can often find a video of that very drive on YouTube? People use dash cams to record their travels. When I was writing Mercy Inn, I found several videos showing people taking a drive down Colorado State Highway 17, which is where the novel is set.

  • Something to think about from an article titled Lord, Keep Me Desperate by Jon Bloom: "We have a tendency to move toward God in affliction and wander from God in prosperity."

  • I'm staring out my office window, looking through the barren branches of one tree, at the tree across the street that is still displaying all her fall colors. For everything there is a season; a time to be born and a time to die. Take time this weekend to notice both.

  • You may know that I used to cover sports for various media outlets. A story like this one is why I loved doing it. This Indiana man kept a promise to his father a couple of nights ago when he listened to Game 7 of the World Series on the radio while sitting by his father's grave.

  • Did you watch the Country Music Awards on Wednesday night? If not, Randy Travis made an appearance to sing the final word of one of his songs and it was so touching. He's recovering from a stroke he suffered in 2013.

If you like what you're reading here and want to support it, then forward this to a friend who might be interested in joining my list, buy a book or become a patron.

Have a great weekend!
