If You Had to Downsize Quickly, What Would You Keep?

2/23/2017

I got the cover back from my designer for "Higher Grounds: When God Steps into the Here and Now." You are the first ones to see it.

The book is a collection of essays about thirty instances when God stepped into the circumstances of my life in an undeniable way. My hope is, it will prompt you to remember many similar instances in your own life.

I don't have a release date for the book yet, but I'm anticipating it will be in April. Just wanted to share my excitement with you.

Here are this week's week's thoughts about slowing down and living deeper:

  • A man named Tommy Liu is going to travel across Asia for a year. He's been downsizing in anticipation of the trip, and he's written an article about. At the end of the article, he asks readers these questions: If you had to downsize to just a couple boxes over the next month, what would you keep? What would you toss? What does that reveal about you? Certainly worth pondering, isn't it?

  • Thanks to Austin Kleon's email newsletter, I learned about WRBH - a radio station that is dedicated to turning "the printed word into the spoken word so that the blind and print handicapped can receive the same ease of access to current information as their sighted peers." Anybody can listen to the station online for free.

  • Dale Earnhardt, Jr. told a story on his podcast this week about buying every issue of "Time" magazine that was published the year one of his friends was born and then giving them to him for his birthday. Apparently, his buddy was a fan of the magazine. What a great gift-giving idea.

  • Last week I told you about an awesome Instagram account called Abandon. This week, I'd encourage you to check out the Around the World Pix account. It's so inspiring. You don't have to be on Instragram to view the photos. Just click here.

  • As somebody who goes by his middle name, I found this "Reader's Digest" article to be fascinating: So Why Do We Even Have Middle Names?

  • I switch to decaffeinated coffee recently and it's not as bad as I expected, or remember. In fact, I'm not sure I could tell the difference now. Have you made a lifestyle choice that didn't turn out as bad as you expected?

  • World Book Day was held on Wednesday. I read an article that listed seven ways to celebrate the holiday. One of the suggestions was to visit a tiny lending library. I've only visited one. A local hospital has one outside its gift shop, which is a nice touch for patients or families of patients who need something to read but might be short on cash. Have you ever visited one?

Have we connected on Twitter or Facebook? If not, let's do so now.

And if you like what you're reading here and want to support it, then join my email list, or consider buying a book or becoming a patron (all patrons receive free copies of my e-books as they are released as a thank you for the support).

Have a great weekend!
