Common Grounds: Contemplation, Confessions, and (Unexpected) Connections from the Coffee Shop

coffee shops essays
"Am I the only one?"

That question sent Lee Warren on a pilgrimage in which he visited 30 coffee shops in Omaha, Nebraska. This collection of 30 heartfelt essays about love, loss, loneliness, and a deep need for connection is the result.

He ended up spending $136.42 on coffee and a few donuts, but it was a small price to pay for the commonality he felt between the patrons, baristas, and himself. And standing on common ground gave him strength in the most unexpected of ways.

Maybe it will do the same for you.

The Experience of Christmas: Devotions and Activities for Families

The Experience of Christmas, Christmas devotional
This is the year to slow down and truly experience Christmas.

The Experience of Christmas helps families focus on the birth of Christ, through unique, two-stage devotionals--the first part, brief and simple, is for families with young children, while the balance of the reading goes into great detail for older kids.

With enough readings for every day in December, The Experience of Christmas provides food for thought, prayer starters, and ideas for meaningful family activities. Readings include:
  • Fulfilled Prophecies
  • Family Service
  • Christmas Symbols and Traditions
  • Names of the Messiah
  • Christmas Worship
Enjoyable devotions and plenty of realistic family activity that combine faith and fun. I passed it along to a family of homeschoolers who rave about it and say it is making this Christmas more complete and memorable. - Delores Liesner

We are so glad this is reprinted!!! We have loved this book for several years now and it's as a part as our family tradition as stockings and our Christmas tree. We will be purchasing multiple for friends and family. - Lonnie Bagwell

Look no further for your next Advent devotional! Lee Warren has written a creative, informative, and family friendly introduction to the days ahead of Christ's birth. Each chapter delights with adjoining readings for younger ones and for older children as well as adults. He includes fulfilled prophecy, symbols and traditions, crafts and projects. Every day has a written prayer, a Christmas carol, and a devotion plus so much more. The names of Jesus are a part of the instructive book, a verse for the daily sections, and ways to share the Christmas experience with others. You can begin on December first and continue on past Christmas day until December 31st. This advent worship adventure has something for everyone in the family. I highly recommend using The Experience of Christmas for a thoughtful, spiritual, and prayerful advent season! All ages will glean valuable information, spiritual insight, and adoration of the Christ child. - Sharon R. Paavola

Racin' Flat Out for Christ: Spiritual Lessons from the World of NASCAR

NASCAR devotional
Racin Flat Out for Christ takes you behind the scenes in NASCAR to show you what God is doing. You ll hear from 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne as he talks about the importance of getting his priorities straight before he won that race. You ll see how God used the outreach of the NASCAR community after a tornado in Texas to reach a soul for Christ. You ll learn about how close a group of drivers have become since getting involved in a Bible study together. And you will read stories about what God is doing in the garage to change lives.

"Lee has done an amazing job of capturing the hearts behind the men who radically pursue their faith in the NASCAR community, allowing readers to see what is really important in our lives and extending the platform that God has entrusted to us. We are not defined by our careers, but rather, our identity is found in Christ!" - Michael McDowell, Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series driver

"This NASCAR devotional shines light into what really matters, whether you're a NASCAR driver or whatever you may be called to in life. God has a purpose for all of us right where we are." - Josh Wise, Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series driver

"This is really cool to see a glimpse of different NASCAR drivers' spiritual journey. Very encouraging." - Blake Koch, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver

Single Servings: 90 Devotions to Feed Your Soul

Picture
Many Christian singles struggle with loneliness, physical desires, and expectations. The world has answers to all of these needs, but so does the Bible. In Single Servings, author Lee Warren, himself an unmarried thirty something, offers ninety devotionals for single Christians who find themselves pressured by one or more of these challenges.

He takes an honest look at the struggle as well as the benefits of the single life, never attempting to minimize the realities of being single but always pushing the reader to find ultimate satisfaction in Christ and the church. Each devotional is followed by insightful questions that encourage both practical and spiritual reflection, making this is a must read for any single who desires greater fulfillment and longs for wholeness.

Because my wife and I began dating when I was eighteen and we married when I was twenty-one, I have difficulty relating to the situations of men and women who find themselves single or single again in their late twenties, early thirties and beyond. Because of this I assumed that Single Servings by Lee Warren would have little to offer me. But it turns out that I was wrong.

Single Servings is a devotional book targetted at single adults. Author Lee Warren ministers to singles as a columnist for Christianity Online. He has been published in several other publications and often travels to speaking engagements. He is well-qualified to write a book to challenge and encourage other singles.
  –Tim Challies

Single Servings explores the single mindset and challenges people to live their lives with a purposeful style. The author, Lee Warren, is a single man who shares what he has both lived and learned from other singles, on a deep level and speaks honestly. The questions at the end of each devotional will stir up your thoughts and experiences and press you into thinking about how relevant is your lifestyle in comparison to scripture. If you are hungry for meaning and relevance in your life and have a hard time focusing on the issues, then Single Servings can help you sort through what's in your heart. It is a great tool for helping singles dialogue with God about the things that really matter such as community, completeness, expectations, fairness, physical desires, and more. –Susan White Rose

The Great Adventure Journal

Picture
Here’s a devotional journal for the man who craves outdoor adventure! The Great Adventure journal draws parallels between the Christian faith and many popular outside activities, such as camping, hiking, fishing, biking, hunting, stargazing, and more. Each concise reading is accompanied by a relevant scripture and prayer, along with ample journaling space. Life itself is an adventure—and The Great Adventure journal will focus your thoughts on the God who created the great outdoors and all the wonderful things in it. It’s a handsome, keepsake journal, and Lee is one of a number of contributors.

I have an interest in this book but I must say it's fun, beautifully presented and boxed, and full of thoughtful moments with appropriate Bible verses.

It's not a heavy theological exposition but it's a very pleasant and inspirational read. It makes an excellent gift (being faux leather bound and coming in a nice presentation box) and I gave one to my son before he joined the army. I hope when he comes back there will be some interesting thoughts written in the journal columns

All of the authors are listed. They even have short individual biographies.

Although I am an avid NASCAR fan, upon finishing this book, I came to the realization that you don't even have to know what NASCAR stands for to appreciate the stories and messages conveyed within the pages. I will admit some background on driver deaths would be very helpful information if I didn't know the history as well as I do. ... My favorite story is also one of the shortest in the book. "Special Delivery" will make you think twice about that big brown truck when you see it next time I guarantee. Definitely the saddest story in the book in my opinion (page 33- I've had so many people read it I've put the page to memory). If you've ever read Chicken Soup books, you'll know what to expect with the wide variety of topics discussed, and if you're a NASCAR fan, you'll enjoy the NASCAR ties expressed in each story. Definitely worth the price. –R. Chambers
